Sympathetic-parasympathetic interactions in the heart.

چکیده
We determined the influence of differences in the time of initiation of sympathetic and vagal stimulation (both at 10 Hz) on the cardiac autonomic interactions in 16 open-chest anesthetized dogs. We always ended the concurrent sympathetic and vagal stimulations simultaneously. Sympathetic stimulation alone for 1 minute increased heart rate by 90±7 (mean+SEM) beats per minute, and vagal stimulation alone for 1 minute decreased heart rate by 67±5 beats per minute; i.e., the algebraic sum of these responses was

Autonomic nervous nonlinear interactions lead to frequency modulation between low- and high-frequency bands of the heart rate variability spectrum.
Cardiac sympathetic and parasympathetic neural activities have been found to interact with each other to efficiently regulate the heart rate and maintain homeostasis. Quantitative and noninvasive methods used to detect the presence of interactions have been lacking, however. This may be because interactions among autonomic nervous systems are nonlinear and nonstationary. The goal of this work w...
متن کاملEffects of Wearing N95 Respirators and Surgical Masks during Progressive Running Exercise and High-Intensity Interval Training on Time- and Frequency-Domain Indicators of Heart Rate Variability
Background and purpose: Wearing face masks has become popular during the COVID-19 pandemic as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus. Some studies have pointed out the intervening role of these masks in the effect of exercise on the cardiovascular system. This study aimed at examining and comparing the effects of masking (N95 respirators and surgical masks) and not wearing a mask during e...
متن کاملAutonomic control of the heart during exercise in humans: role of skeletal muscle afferents.
NEW FINDINGS What is the topic of this review? The autonomic nervous system plays a key role in bringing about the cardiovascular responses to exercise necessitated by the increased metabolic requirements of the active skeletal muscle. The complex interaction of central and peripheral neural control mechanisms evokes a decrease in parasympathetic activity and an increase sympathetic activity to...

Background & Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of land, warm and normal water aerobic exercises on heart rate variability in recovery period on healthy young men. Materials & Methods: In this study, subjects were randomly divided into four groups (control, Land aerobic exercise, normal water aerobic exercise, and warm water aerobic exercise) and performed reg...
